Saturday

I always love how much walking we do in Europe - without even thinking about it. We easily log over 11,000 steps. For me, that takes effort when we are home.

We started Saturday by seeing the David. It was as magnificent today as it was when I first saw it in 1975.

We then hit the Duomo ticket office, to get our appointment (Tuesday at 9am) to climb, and we peeked inside the Duomo museum to seem one of Miacheangelo’s pietas. This one is called The Depsotion.
Michelangelo’s work started as a monument for his own tomb. It was not competed because he grew frustrated with it and started to break it apart. You can see the places in the marble where it was put back together. The face of Nicodemus (the old man) is that of Micheangelo.

After the breathtaking views of Michelangelo’s talent and work, we needed to get some lunch. We strolled to an Osteria that had been highly recommended. Even though we did not have reservations (although not from lack of trying... they don’t answer the phone when they are busy, they said), we snagged two seats and got to ordering. I had a lovely caprese salad:

Dan had anchovies, and we both had pasta from the primi menu. We sat with an interesting couple from Chicago. Perhaps the most significant thing that came from the conversation was that the gentleman had been somewhere the evening before where they serve bone marrow... ossobucco, maybe? And so of course, we are heading there tonite (Sunday) so that Dan can eat some. Nom?

The afternoon was spent at the Central Market, buying stuff to bring home and ingredients for a simple dinner of bread, cheese, olives, and cherries. And we took naps. Naps are good.
