Leaving Metato

If I had it to do over again, and if there were not things that we wanted to see, I would just stay in Metato. It’s such a lovely village with lovely people; I could see myself holing up with books, wine, and Dan. Griswold, Bryan’s and Sara’s cat, would sit on my lap (or wherever), and we would drink tea and read all day.

If you ever want to escape to a paradise in the Italian mountains of Tuscany, Metato is the place to go.  Bryan’s house - lovingly restored for more than 25 years - is called Metato 35. You can see it at Metato.com. Sara’s place - also lovely, with a beautiful garden and right next door to the wonderful restaurant where we dined last nite until almost midnight - is Metato26 - metato26.com. Take your hiking shoes so that you can hike down to Osteria Candalla for a magical meal.

Some final photos from this morning:

Above: A view of Camaiore and the coast from the footpath.

This is Bryan driving the tractor (and us and our bags) to the parking lot. It’s about 35 metres from the lot to Bryan’s place.

(Dan: even better, here is a video of us leaving in the same manner we came in....)

Ciao, Metato. We hope to see you again! ❤️

In Camiore, we stopped at the place the Bryan recommended for croissant, brioche, cappuccino, and expresso. Dan tried expresso with sambuca. We had heard about this custom of drinking before noon last nite during dinner. So here is Dan, working on fitting in here in Italy:

We took the opportunity while in Camaiore to go by the shop where our credit card was to be delivered, to thank them and to let them know that they could destroy the package. (Wouldn’t you know that the freaking thing was delivered just after noon, as we arrived at the airport to return the car? Shit.) We drove from Camiore to Viareggio, which Bryan says used to be like Cannes. We walked out past the marina and got some photos. I also got a video of some crazy person windsurfing. The wind was serious, as were the waves.
